The place was my home in the apartment behind the shop. The apartment was not fancy but a warm, loving and secure place for me to be raised. There was always someone at home for me. My mother was seldom not home when I came home from school and Dad (who worked in the adjoining shop was ALWAYS there). Our Christmas trees were always fresh and silver tinsel was the final decoration on the tree. The tinsel could be carefully place a few at a time so it would hang straight and pretty(like icicles. OR (like the boys often did), the tinsel was tosssed on to the tree and where and how it landed on the tree was where they would leave it. Not very pretty, not like an icicle. On the top of this tree was a pretty ornament that was shaped into an upward point. Two of the gifts that I received were (1) a portable phonograph player. I had to crank it up to make it play. (2)The box with a handle on top that I was leaning on was to store my musical records. The year was 1947 and I was 14 years old.

I remember you always placing those icicles one by one after we put the lights & ornaments on. It was pretty and made the tree sparkle more with reflections from the lights. A Cranking photograph?
